NEW: The new 3M Peltor Comtac VIII Headset is the new 3M Peltor Comtac Headset Range, these models supersedes the previous 3M Peltor Comtac XPI series of headsets that have been used extensively around the world by the Military and Police forces to enable effect communications in all situations.
As the successor to the proven ComTac XPI series, the ComTac VIII not only offers improved comfort and robustness, but also many technical innovations. The earcups, headband, ambient microphones and speaking microphone suspension have been completely redesigned to improve attenuation, comfort, combat helmet compatibility and overall user friendliness.
The 3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ VIII Headset helps protect your hearing and can help promote auditory situational awareness and communications in challenging environments. Some versions are equipped with a downlead cable for connection to a radio via a push-to-talk (PTT), and a noise cancelling speech microphone for communication in noise.
The MAP (Mission Audio Profiles) feature provides a way to adjust the audio settings for the headset’s ambient listening for the respective area of use. With conventional active hearing protection headsets, the frequency response is predefined, which means that the ambient volume is controlled linearly. The user can only increase or decrease the volume.
The MAP function is an alternative mode for ambient listening with different gain settings and frequency adjustments to improve hearing in different situations.
The Mission Audio Profiles are designed for combat use and combat support operations. With the adjustable Mission Audio Profiles, the ComTac VIII adapts flexibly to different operating conditions.
Available MAP modes are : Comfort mode, Conversations fashion, Patrolling fashion, Overwatch fashion and Silent mode
The ComTac VIII features an updated microphone design that supports both left- and right-handed users and allows for flexible positioning. The microphone capsule is embedded in patented 3M closed cell foam and provides improved noise cancellation in high noise and wind while increasing protection against dust and water ingress (IP68 certified, 3m water depth / 30 min).
t is now even easier to switch between wearing the headband or helmet adaptation. The ComTac VIII features a redesigned guide for snapping in and out of the connection cable for quick switching between ARC rail adapters and headband. In addition, “hotspots” were prevented, which can lead to pressure points when worn under the helmet.
In particularly loud environments, the ComTac VIII offers additional protection by combining it with ear plugs. The special Ear Plug mode maintains a certain level of auditory awareness by compensating for the attenuation caused by the plugs and thus continuing to enable effective communication.
In addition to the 3M Peltor TEP-300 electronic earplugs, the passive 3M EAR Classic earplugs, together with the ComTac VIII, are also certified according to EN-352. This allows you to achieve insulation values of up to 41dB SNR (for a detailed table of insulation values, see the “technical details” tab on this page). This double protective effect means that even the noise emissions of a helicopter taking off for people on the ground or firing artillery or large-caliber long weapons are reduced to a non-harmful level, while at the same time fully maintaining the ability to communicate.
Provides a safe means to anchor a fall protection device to an overhead location beyond normal reach.
The new Soundscape mode: This is an entirely new feature first introduced with the ComTac VIII series. This function automatically adjusts some settings depending on the noise in the user’s environment. When sound customization is turned on, the following features are enabled:
Increased radio volume in the event of strong continuous noise (with radio volume set to Auto).
Increased volume for voice messages in loud, continuous noise.
Reduced static radio signal/noise between transmissions.
- Environmental listening for auditory situational awareness
- Hearing protection to help protect from impulse and steady state noise
- Advanced listening mode featuring Mission Audio Profiles (MAP) to maximize audibility based on the acoustical environment
- Noise-cancelling speech microphone for communication in noise (select models)
- Earplug mode to help maintain auditory situational awareness when used in combination with earplugs
- Soundscaping to help with radio communication speech intelligibility
- Tested in accordance with applicable sections of a variety of military and other standards
